However, as of version 3.0 of the sourceforge software, the software itself is no longer Free Software. It worried many users that they were involved in Free Software projects hosted on software that was not itself Free Sofware. Therefore, some people lead by Loïc Dachary took version 2.0 of Sourceforge and forked it to create the Savannah project.
The Savannah project is now a Free Software hosting site similar to sourceforge.
