Golden, Colorado
Golden Colorado is a western suburb of
Denver. It lies at the mouth of Clear Creek at the foot of the
mountains. It is the county seat of
Jefferson County. The
Colorado School of Mines and the
Coors Brewing Company are in Golden. It is also the birthplace of the Jolly Rancher, a candy bought by
Hershey Foods Corporation. As of the
2000 census, the city had a total population of 17,159.
Golden was one of the first towns established in
Colorado being on the way to the
gold fields. It is about 15 miles from the center of Denver but is now part of the
Denver Metropolitan Area.

United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 23.3

mi²). 23.3 km² (9.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

2000, there are 17,159 people, 6,877 households, and 3,913 families residing in the city. The
population density is 735.3/km² (1,905.1/mi²). There are 7,146 housing units at an average density of 306.2/km² (793.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.66% White, 1.03%
African American, 1.05%
Native American, 2.99%
Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 1.98% from other races, and 2.24% from two or more races. 6.59% of the population are

Latino of any race.
There are 6,877 households out of which 26.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.1% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.85.
In the city the population is spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 16.9% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.0% who are 65 years of age or older.
