Greenville, North Carolina
Greenville is a city located in
Pitt County, North Carolina. As of the
2000 census, the city had a total population of 60,476. It is the
county seat of
Pitt County6.
On
March 19,
1861 during the
American Civil War, the Battle of Bentonville began here. By the end of the battle on the 21st Confederate forces had retreated from the area.
