Grosses Universal-Lexicon

The Grosses Universal-Lexicon aller Wissenschafften und Künste, welche bishero durch menschlichen Verstand und Witz erfunden und verbessert worden ("Great Universal Encyclopaedia of all Sciences and Arts, which so far have been invented and improved by human mind and wit") is a 68-volume German encyclopaedia containing 62,571 pages and about 750,000 articles. It was published between 1732 and 1754 by Johann Heinrich Zedler and was the first encyclopaedia to include biographies of living persons. The main editors were Jacob August Franckenstein (volumes 1-2), Paul Daniel Longolius (volumes 3-18), and Carl Günther Ludovici (volumes 19-64 and 4 supplementary volumes).
