Gush Dan
Gush Dan (גוש דן) is the
Hebrew name of the
Tel Aviv metropolitan area on the
Mediterranean coast. It is the largest metropolitan area in
Israel, with a population of approximately 1.75 million. The area includes
Tel-Aviv-
Jaffa,
Ramat Gan,
Givatayim,
Petach Tikva,
Bnei-Brak,
Bat Yam,
Herzliya, Ramle,
Lod and
Rishon Lezion. The name
Gush Dan means
Dan Bloc, and is named because the area was the territory of the
tribe of Dan in the ancient
Kingdom of Israel.
