Hazen is a city located in Mercer County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,457.

Demographics

As of the
census of 2000, there are 2,457 people, 937 households, and 684 families residing in the city. The population density is 765.0/km² (1,981.6/mi²). There are 1,131 housing units at an average density of 352.2/km² (912.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.07% White, 0.12% African American, 1.75% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. 0.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 937 households out of which 39.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.1% are married couples living together, 4.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% are non-families. 25.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.12.

In the city the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $44,028, and the median income for a family is $55,859. Males have a median income of $46,792 versus $23,011 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,908. 5.9% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.1% are under the age of 18 and 22.7% are 65 or older.
