Heage

HEAGE

The village is situated midway between Belper and Ripley and is today famous for its recently restored six sailed windmill. The mill was originally built in 1797 from local sandstone and after its recent renovation it is now in working order. It is open to the public from April through to October at weekends and Bank Holidays from 11pm to 4am. There is a small shop, which sells gifts and refreshments, an interpretation centre in the basement, and visitors are taken round the mill on guided tours. Also located in Heage, at Morley Park, are the remains of two cold blast coke iron furnaces built in 1780 and 1818.
