\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 840 km² (324 mi²). 836 km² (323 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.55% water.

\nAs of the census2 of 2000, there are 119,341 people, 41,373 households, and 33,305 families residing in the county. The population density is 143/km² (370/mi²). There are 43,166 housing units at an average density of 52/km² (134/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 81.38% White, 14.68% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 1.76% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.79% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. 2.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 41,373 households out of which 42.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.40% are married couples living together, 10.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.50% are non-families. 15.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.87 and the average family size is 3.19.
In the county the population is spread out with 29.20% under the age of 18, 7.40% from 18 to 24, 34.90% from 25 to 44, 21.00% from 45 to 64, and 7.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 97.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.80 males.
