Henry Hughes Wilson
Henry Hughes Wilson was a British field marshal. He was born on
May 5 1864 in Currygrane,
Ireland. He became Director Of Military Operations at the British War Office in
1910. He commanded an army corps in
France for most of
1916. He was promoted to chief of Imperial General Staff, effectively the head of the armed forces, in February
1918. After the
First World War, he resigned from the army and became a Member of Parliament for North Down,
Ulster. He was shot by two assassins in
London on
June 22 1922.
