Indian Space Research Organisation
The
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is in charge of
India's
space programme. Objectives of the space programme include development of satellites, launch vehicles, and associated ground systems.
It is headquartered in Bangalore. Its main launch facility is at Sriharikota, which lies near the 13° N latitude.
The major ISRO establishments are :
- Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Trivandrum : Rocket and Laucnch Vehicles.
- SHAR, Sriharikota (near Chennai) : Launch station
- Liquid Propulsions Systems Centre (LPSC), Trivandrum : Cryogenice propulsion research.
- Master Control Facility, Bangalore : Satellite control.
- Inertial Systems Unit, Trivandrum
Satellites
- The INSAT series of geosynchronous communication/meteorological satellites
- The IRS series: Indian Remote Sensing Satellites. Remote sensing data from these satellites is available from Space Imaging Inc. As of early 2002, the IRS series is the source of some of the highest resolution data available.
