All recent banknotes show the image of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Following his deposition in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi Governing Council made public display of images of Hussein illegal. In an effort to feed the Iraqi economy, the Office for Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance began printing more 250-dinar notes. Saddam Hussein appeared on the 250-dinar note until October 2003, when a more neutral design was adopted.
At around this time, a number of spoof banknote designs were circulated on the internet, showing US President George W. Bush in Saddam's place.
