Irma la Douce
Irma la Douce is a
1963 comedy film which tells the story of a naive
French policeman who raids a house of
prostitution, only to find his superior there. Fired from his job, he finds himself unwittingly becoming a
pimp for a young prostitute with whom he falls in love. It stars
Jack Lemmon,
Shirley MacLaine, Lou Jacobi and Grace Lee Whitney.
The movie was adapted by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond from the play by Alexandre Breffort. It was directed by Wilder.
It won the Academy Award for Original Music Score and was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Shirley MacLaine) and Best Cinematography, Color.
Irma la Douce was remade for French television in 1972.
