Johnson City, Oregon

Johnson City is a city located in Clackamas County, Oregon. It was a trailer park owned entirely by one man, whose residents voted to incorporate by a 49 to 10 vote on June 16, 1970. This incorporation avoided a 1969 Oregon law designed to prevent the profileration of small incorporated areas because the proponents had filed for an election before the effective date of the law. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 634.

Geography

Johnson City is located at 45°24'17" North, 122°34'51" West (45.404642, -122.580738)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²). 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 634 people, 275 households, and 169 families residing in the city. The population density is 4,079.8/km² (11,061.5/mi²). There are 286 housing units at an average density of 1,840.4/km² (4,989.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.69% White, 1.10% African American, 1.10% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.58% from other races, and 2.05% from two or more races. 3.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 275 households out of which 24.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.4% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% are non-families. 32.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.84.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $35,517, and the median income for a family is $36,985. Males have a median income of $32,500 versus $23,523 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,967. 8.1% of the population and 6.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.9% are under the age of 18 and 10.7% are 65 or older.
