Most historians believe La Mallorquina to have been the first restaurant established in Puerto Rico. It opened its doors in 1848. The restaurant's original owners came from Palma de Mallorca, Spain; that's why they named their restaurant La Mallorquina, which loosely translated into English means The girl from Mallorca.
One of La Mallorquinas featured foods is the classic corn-on-a-stick. It is believed that Puerto Ricans call this food Mallorca because it was probably introduced in Puerto Rico for the first time by this restaurant.
