Lacey Township is a township located in Ocean County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 25,346.

Geography

\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 255.2 km² (98.5 mi²). 217.6 km² (84.0 mi²) of it is land and 37.6 km² (14.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 14.74% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 25,346 people, 9,336 households, and 7,244 families residing in the township. The population density is 116.5/km² (301.7/mi²). There are 10,580 housing units at an average density of 48.6/km² (126.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.85% White, 0.36% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.41% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 2.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 9,336 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% are non-families. 18.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.08. In the township the population is spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.4 males. The median income for a household in the township is $55,938, and the median income for a family is $61,298. Males have a median income of $47,406 versus $30,088 for females. The per capita income for the township is $23,136. 4.5% of the population and 3.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.1% are under the age of 18 and 4.5% are 65 or older.
