Lansana Conté
Lansana Conté (born
1930s) is the president of
Guinea. He seized power in
1984 (succeeding
Ahmed Sékou Touré) and has led the country since. In
2001 he won an election to let him stay in power after
2003. He is widely seen as a
strongman. In December 2003 he won the presidential election with 95.6% of the vote.
