Leaky ray
Leaky ray: In an
optical fiber, a
ray for which
geometric optics would predict
total internal reflection at the boundary between the
core and the
cladding, but which suffers
loss by virtue of the curved core boundary.
Note: Leaky rays correspond to leaky (i.e. , tunneling) modes in the terminology of mode descriptors. Synonym tunneling ray.
