Lenox Township is a township located in Macomb County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 8,433.

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 100.6 km² (38.8 mi²). 100.6 km² (38.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 8,433 people, 2,510 households, and 1,945 families residing in the township. The population density is 83.9/km² (217.2/mi²). There are 2,646 housing units at an average density of 26.3/km² (68.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 79.00% White, 16.54% African American, 0.74% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.68% from other races, and 2.77% from two or more races. 2.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,510 households out of which 39.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.1% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% are non-families. 18.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.19. In the township the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 37.9% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 134.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 147.2 males. The median income for a household in the township is $50,659, and the median income for a family is $54,605. Males have a median income of $43,475 versus $27,582 for females. The per capita income for the township is $18,800. 10.1% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.7% are under the age of 18 and 11.0% are 65 or older.
