Ligatne Nature Trails were established in 1975 in order to acquaint visitors with nature, mammal and plant species characteristic for Latvia, nature diversity and protection. It is located in the territory of Gauja National Park, on the left bank of the Gauja River down the paper mill. On the banks of the Gauja River and in the middle of wooden glens trails of more than 5 km are arranged where it is possible to observe wild animals and birds characteristic for the fauna of Latvia.
The animals have been brought from various places of Latvia. They were either injured or tamed cubs that could not survive without care of a man and find food without assistance. By choosing the Nature Trails visitors, families with children, pupils can watch bear, lynx, elk, European bison, roe and red deer.
Following the Nature Trails visitors can get to know different plants and trees, while walking along Fairy-tale trail they can see different wooden sculptures. View Tower suggests the possibility to admire the diversity of colourful landscape. You can have horse riding possibilities as well as relaxation at a camp fireplace on the Gauja River.
By choosing the Trail along the Gauja River, Wild nature trail or the route for visitors with cars, it is possible to get to know landscapes characteristic for the Gauja River valley, geological formations, forests and plants of meadows. In Ligatne Nature Trails it is possible to visit Jumpraviezis rock, Katriniezis rock, Gudu cliffs and one of few sandstone canyons - Paparzu (Fern) glen.
