A number of noted individuals have been agnostics.

- Thomas Hobbes, (1588-1679), English philosopher
- Simon Bolivar, (1783-1830), Venezuelan military commander
- Charles Darwin, (1809-1882), Founder of The Theory of Evolution
- Susan B. Anthony, (1820-1906), US feminist
- Thomas Henry Huxley, (1825-1895), coiner of the term agnosticism
- Mark Twain, (1835-1920) American author
- Emile Berliner, (1851-1929), inventor
- Bertrand Russell, (1872-1970), Welsh philosopher
- Robert Heinlein, (1907-1988), (refused on various occasions to commit to a firm belief in any theological or metaphysical propositions)
- Andy Rooney, (b. 1919), broadcast personality
- Carl Sagan, (1934-1996), astronomer and skeptic
- Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine, (b. 1928), founder of The Society for Humanistic Judaism, coined the term "ignosticism"
- Larry King, (b. 1933), broadcast personality
- Stephen Hawking, (b. 1942), physicist, sometimes deals with the possible implications of his theories on the concept of God
- Matt Groening, (b. 1954), creator of Life in Hell the Simpsons and Futurama
- Dave Matthews, (b. 1967), recording artist
