Loir-et-Cher is a French département. It is in the Centre region of north-central France, and was formed from parts of the old provinces of Orléanais and Touraine.

Its main waterways are the Cher River and the Loire River on which the town of Blois, the préfecture (capital) of the departement, is situated.

The département is the site of the Royal château of Blois, Chateau Cheverny, Chateau Chaumont, as well as the village of Chambord with its renowned Chateau Chambord built by King François I.
