The aged and absent-minded Lord Emsworth is the resident of Blandings Castle, which is also occupied or visited by his brother, the Hon. Galahad Threepwood, his sons Freddie Threepwood and of Lord Bosham, the butler Beach, and especially by his dominating sisters, including Lady Constance Keeble.
During the Blandings Castle series, Lord Emsworth is a competitor (and winner) in Shropshire's Agriculture Show. At first he contents himself with entering large pumpkins, but he later enters his prize pig, the Empress of Blandings. The Empress, in the story, is rivalled by the Queen of Matchingham, which belongs to Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe, Baronet.
