Louisburg, Nova Scotia
Louisburg is a former town on
Cape Breton Island of
Nova Scotia,
Canada. Louisburg was settled by the French who called it
Louisbourg soon after
1713. It was incorporated in
1901. When six towns were joined into the Cape Breton Regional Municipality in
1995, Louisburg was reduced to a neighborhood.
In the 18th century it was also the site of a strategically important military post, the Fortress Louisbourg, which is now an historic site and park.
