Lumber City is a city located in Telfair County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,247.

census of 2000, there are 1,247 people, 488 households, and 309 families residing in the city. The population density is 248.2/km² (642.7/mi²). There are 578 housing units at an average density of 115.0/km² (297.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 46.75% White, 51.40% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.28% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 2.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 488 households out of which 29.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.3% are married couples living together, 23.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% are non-families. 33.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 3.06. In the city the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 79.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 70.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $18,555, and the median income for a family is $25,568. Males have a median income of $22,802 versus $17,031 for females.
