Major suit
In
contract bridge, the
major suits are spades and hearts.
The major suits are of primel importance for tactics and scoring as they
not only outrank the minor suits but also outscore them.
Much of the tactics of bidding in bridge revolves around the attempt
by partners to find a "fit" in one of the major suits that will
allow them to easily make a game contract.
In Ambition, spades are the major suit because they contain 38 of the round's 85 points. Whether or not clubs, which comprise the fewest points of the four suits but contain the most powerful individual card, deserve to be considered a major suit is debated.
