census of 2000, there are 1,428 people, 602 households, and 399 families residing in the town. The population density is 113.9/km² (294.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.13% White, 0.07% African American, 1.75% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 0.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 602 households out of which 25.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% are non-families. 30.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.83. In the town the population is spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 24.2% who are 65 years of age or older.
