McCandless Township, Pennsylvania
McCandless Township is a township located in
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. As of the
2000 census, the township had a total population of 29,022.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 43.1
km² (16.6
mi²). 42.8 km² (16.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.66% water. McCandless is now incorporated as a town, rather than a township. It is part of the North Allegheny School district, along with the boroughs of Franklin Park, Bradford Woods and Marshall Township. Retail districts include the Wexford Flats along US Rt. 19, and the historic postal village of Ingomar. UPMC Passavant Hospital and La Roche College also call McCandless home.
As of the census of
2000, there are 29,022 people, 11,159 households, and 7,922 families residing in the township. The population density is 677.5/km² (1,754.4/mi²). There are 11,697 housing units at an average density of 273.0 persons/km² (707.1 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 94.58% White, 1.29%

The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.02.
