A
meatball is a ball of fried minced
meat, it is the primary component of the dish
Swedish Meatballs.
There are many kind of meatball recipes with different kind of spices. How you make your meatballs and which fat you fry them in depend as much on your cultural background as on your individual taste. Ground veal has often been substituted for beef. Liver is sometimes ground together with the meat for texture. Lard may be substituted for butter in some traditional recipes..
However, all recipes are based on the following basic, or minimum, recipe for Swedish meatballs;
Servings: 4, Time: 30 minutes
- 0.5 kg ground beef
- 1 egg
- 0.5 dl dried bread crumbs
- 2 - 3 dl fluid, like water, milk or cream
- 1 small onion
- salt, pepper
Combine the fluid and the dried bread crumb in a bowl and let it sit for 7-8 minutes.
Chop the onion fine.
Combine the ground beef, the egg, the chopped onion, salt and pepper in the bowl.
Make round meatballs, approximately 2-3 centimeters in diameter.
Fry the meatballs on medium heat in a frying pan with butter for approximately 3-5 minutes. Fry them on all sides until they are brown and not pink in the middle.
Serve them with mashed potatoes and lingonberry or cranberry preserve.
