All these places derive their name, directly or indirectly, from the village of Melbourne in Derbyshire, England. Near the village is a manor house called Melbourne Hall, the home of the Lamb family since the 1770s. William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne, who was Prime Minister of Britain in 1834 and from 1835 to 1841, was born and died there, and Melbourne Australia was named in his honour in 1835.
