Mila Mulroney

Mila Mulroney (born July 15, 1953 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia) is the wife of the 18th Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney.

Born Mila Pivnicki, she came with her family from Sarajevo in 1958 to live in Montreal, Quebec where her father did graduate studies in psychiatry at McGill University.

She studied engineering at Concordia University, but did not graduate. At the age of 19, she married Mulroney, then a lawyer, on May 26, 1973. They have one daughter and three sons.

  1. Caroline Mulroney, born 1974
  2. Benedict Mulroney, born March 9, 1976
  3. Mark Mulroney, born 1979
  4. Nicolas Mulroney, born 1985

Mila Mulroney took a more prominent role than many Prime Ministers' wives while she was in office. She also became a target of criticism due to her luxurious spending habits. She was most criticized for her vast and costly collection of shoes, which earned her the nickname Imelda from Frank Magazine.

She is currently director of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
