Montgomery County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. It was named for its largest community, the town of Montgomery, Texas, which in turn was named for Andrew Montgomery, a settler who founded the town. As of 2000 the population was 293,768. The county seat is Conroe.
This county is part of the Houston Metropolitan Area.

\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,789 km² (1,077 mi²). 2,704 km² (1,044 mi²) of it is land and 85 km² (33 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.04% water.

\nAs of the census2 of 2000, there are 293,768 people, 103,296 households, and 80,157 families residing in the county. The population density is 109/km² (281/mi²). There are 112,770 housing units at an average density of 42/km² (108/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 88.25% White, 3.49% Black or African American, 0.47% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.86% from other races, and 1.79% from two or more races. 12.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 103,296 households out of which 40.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.20% are married couples living together, 9.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.40% are non-families. 18.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.21.
In the county, the population is spread out with 29.50% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 30.60% from 25 to 44, 23.10% from 45 to 64, and 8.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 98.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.40 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $50,864, and the median income for a family is $58,983. Males have a median income of $42,400 versus $28,270 for females. The per capita income for the county is $24,544. 9.40% of the population and 7.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.90% are under the age of 18 and 10.10% are 65 or older.
