Montgomery County is a
county located in the
State of
Virginia. It was named in honor of
Richard Montgomery, an
American Revolutionary War general killed in
1775 while attempting to capture
Quebec City,
Canada. As of
2000, the population is 83,629. Its
county seat is
Christiansburg6.

\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,009

mi²). 1,005 km² (388 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.31% water.
