Mystery Men
Mystery Men is a 1999
movie starring
William H. Macy,
Ben Stiller, and
Hank Azaria as a trio of
superheroes with pretty useless superpowers. Macy plays The Shoveller, whose power is to hit people over the head with a shovel. Stiller plays Mr. Furious, who gets really really angry (but doesn't gain superhuman strength when he does). Azaria plays The Blue Raja, who wears a turban and has uncanny accuracy with thrown silverware (including forks and spoons but not, for some reason, knives).
When Captain Amazing (played by Greg Kinnear), the city's real superhero, is taken out by Casanova Frankenstein, a supervillain played by Geoffrey Rush, it's up to these three (and a few more equally silly colleagues) to save the day.
Also appearing are Janeane Garofalo as The Bowler, Paul Reubens as The Spleen, Wes Studi as The Sphinx, Kel Mitchell as the Invisible Boy, and Tom Waits as an eccentric scientist who makes weapons that don't hurt people.
The movie is based on characters from the independent comic book Flaming Carrot, by Bob Burden.
