New Universities

In the United Kingdom, a New University is either:

• One of the universities founded under the Robbins Report on higher education in the 1960s; These include the universities of Kent, York and Lancaster; or

• Any of the former polytechnics that were given the status of universities by John Major's government in the early 1990s. These include the universities of Greenwich, Kingston and Derby.
