It is played over the Yankee Stadium loudspeakers at the end of New York Yankees ballgames. The Sinatra version is played after a Yankees win, and the Minnelli version is played after a loss. The song is also played during the post parade of the Belmont Stakes.
"New York, New York" is also a song from the 1946 musical On the Town with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The first line of this one is "New York, New York, it's a hell of a town: the Bronx is up and the Battery's down."
