In 2000, Norske Skog, a Norwegian paper company, acquired the pulp and paper assets of Fletcher Challenge. These assets were renamed Norske Skog Canada Limited. In August 2001, Norske Skog Canada acquired Pacifica Papers, which, in turn, had been formed in 1998 from MacMillan Bloedel's paper assets.
