North Franklin Township is a township located in Washington County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 4,818.

Geography

\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 19.3 km² (7.4 mi²). 18.9 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.42% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the census of 2000, there are 4,818 people, 1,964 households, and 1,325 families residing in the township. The population density is 255.5/km² (662.2/mi²). There are 2,052 housing units at an average density of 108.8/km² (282.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 96.35% White, 2.41% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,964 households out of which 26.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.88. In the township the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 23.2% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 24.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 82.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.8 males. The median income for a household in the township is $37,516, and the median income for a family is $51,097. Males have a median income of $38,750 versus $25,672 for females.
