Northampton class cruiser
The
Northampton class of
United States Navy cruisers was a reaction to the weight and cost of the
Pensacola class, with nine 8-inch (203 mm) guns in three turrets and slightly thinner belt armor.
This class was notable as the first to provide bunks instead of hammocks for the crew.
