Oswald von Wolkenstein (born probably May 2 1377 on Schöneck Castle in Pustertal / South Tyrol [now Italy]; died August 8 1445 on Hauenstein Castle near Bolzano) was a poet, a composer and a diplomat. In the latter capacity he travelled through all of Europe, even to Georgia.
Most of his songs are monodic, although there are also, somewhat primitive, polyphonic works. His melodies are however of high quality. There are three main topics of his work: travel, God and brothels.
