It houses a public school, Oundle School, which was founded as a grammar school in 1556 by Sir William Laxton, Lord Mayor of London, who was born in Oundle. The school is maintained by the Worshipful Company of Grocers of the City of London and has eight boys houses and five girls houses, housing around 1000 pupils. The day school for local students was split off in 1876, and known as Laxton School, but was reunited in 2001.
