Geography

\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,891 km² (1,116 mi²). 601 km² (232 mi²) of it is land and 2,290 km² (884 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 79.22% water.

census2 of 2000, there are 82,317 people, 30,857 households, and 23,019 families residing in the county. The population density is 137/km² (355/mi²). There are 32,034 housing units at an average density of 53/km² (138/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.72% White, 0.93% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 1.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 30,857 households out of which 36.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.60% are married couples living together, 6.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.40% are non-families. 21.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.07. In the county, the population is spread out with 26.60% under the age of 18, 6.80% from 18 to 24, 28.00% from 25 to 44, 25.90% from 45 to 64, and 12.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 97.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.00 males.
