Package (computing)

Most generally a package is a box, or such, containing something (perhaps, a present).
In computing, package is a programming term. In the Perl or Java programming languages, and in the Unified Modeling Language, a package can contain objects. It is equivalent to a container in Visual Basic.

Thus this type of package is more like the plastic bag which contains the groceries, than the package delivered by the postman.

In computing, a package is a type of file format to package software installation material. See software package for more.
