Pamplico is a town located in Florence County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,139.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 1,139 people, 419 households, and 323 families residing in the town. The population density is 237.7/km² (615.2/mi²). There are 463 housing units at an average density of 96.6/km² (250.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 45.04% White, 52.50% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.05% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. 1.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 419 households out of which 36.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% are married couples living together, 26.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.9% are non-families. 20.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.11. In the town the population is spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.0 males. The median income for a household in the town is $28,304, and the median income for a family is $31,618. Males have a median income of $27,000 versus $24,028 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,233. 31.7% of the population and 26.8% of families are below the poverty line.
