Perugino
Pietro Vanucci aka Perugino (c.
1445 -
1523),
Umbrian painter, was, as his name suggests, born in Cittą della Pieve, near
Perugia. He studied under
Andrea del Verrocchio. His best known works include the fresco of the
Donation of the Keys (c. 1481) in the
Sistine Chapel and
The Crucifixion (1496) in
Siena. His influence can be seen, to a certain extent, in the work of his pupil
Raphael.
