Philadelphia Inquirer is the major daily newspaper for the
Philadelphia area. It was founded on June 1, 1829 and is the third oldest surviving daily newspaper in the United States. In 1936 it was purchased by
Moses Annenberg, and on December 31, 1969 the paper joined the Knight publishing organization, now
Knight Ridder Circulation in 2002 was 388,671 daily and over 778,000 sunday. The
