Pierre Cauchon

d. 1442, bishop of Beauvais, France, president of the ecclesiastic court that convicted (1431) Joan of Arc at Rouen. His ferocious devotion to the English made an impartial trial unachievable. Cauchon’s course of action was renounced by the church in the rehabilitation trial (1456) of Joan.
