Pilsener
Pilsener or
pilsner (optional capitalization) is a type of
lager beer. It originated in Pilsen in
Bohemia (now
Plzen,
Czech Republic) where brewers noticed that beer had a better taste if it was stored in cold caves and kept on ice. Pilsner Urquell is billed as "the world's first golden beer."
