Pistol Star

The Pistol Star, probably the brightest star in the Milky Way, is 10 million times as bright as the Sun. It is too distant, at 28 thousand light years, to be visible to the naked eye, and was discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope. The Pistol Star may have created the Pistol Nebula, which it illuminates, by ejecting mass under the pressure of its own light. This star is so massive that its future fate cannot be determined for certain.
