Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.2 km² (15.1 mi²). 38.3 km² (14.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.31% water. Plympton is 30 mi (47 km) south of Boston.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 2,637 people, 854 households, and 737 families residing in the town. The population density is 68.8/km² (178.3/mi²). There are 872 housing units at an average density of 22.8/km² (59.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.85% White, 0.99% African American, 0.61% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 0.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 854 households out of which 43.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.5% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.7% are non-families. 10.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
