History
In 1888, John Ross named the place John Pond, a British astronomer. A Hudson's Bay Company outpost and RCMP station were established here in 1921. French Catholic missionaries soon followed (1929).
Demography
Mostly North Baffin Inuit (or the Tunnunirmiut, "the people on the back of the earth"), who are anthropologically grouped together with the Iglulik Inuit.
